Here is a pic of my networks:

The VM is using the unidentified netowrk, which has no access. I would like to merge that network with "what" network but can't do so.

Is this why the vm machine can't join the homegroup?

The troubleshooter says it is a network problem.

Homegroups only works on a standard LAN, it won't work in a Domain or with a VPN connection. You would be better served setting up a Workgroup type network for this. ;)

It is not a VPN or Domain connection.

Sorry I thought you were talking about a vpn for some reason which won't work.

Make sure that the networking for the VM is set to a bridged connection and it should work then. That should put the VM on the same network as the host machine which should allow Homegroups to work with the VM.
