Trying to do restore files from a .vhd onto Windows 7

Hello,

I have run into a problem. I'm trying to get Windows 7 working on my friend's laptop. She had Windows Vista and tried to do a Windows 7 upgrade which for some reason broke a few things on her laptop and after talking to the HP/Microsoft guy (I don't know which) he said she needed to just do a recovery from disc and try the upgrade again.

So what I did:
Using Windows Vista's Backup and Restore utility I created a system image (to see the option I'm describing Start -> type backup in the search, should be the first option 'Backup and Restore' -> Create a system image is in the left pane.
This gave me a folder titled Unicorn (the name of her old computer, damn hippie) with a .vhd inside.
I then used the recovery disks HP sent her to put Vista back on, and retried the upgrade to Windows 7, so the laptop currently has a perfectly working Windows 7 OS running on it, the issue now is I want to get the files that are stored in this 85 GB .vhd back onto her computer. Or if not back on, at least get the .vhd into a format where I can extract the files and stuff she needs and figure out and work with the rest (programs and such).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may be able to use this same method to attach the VHD to extract the files from it instead.
