You need to make sure your hdd is still good. Otherwise any other efforts will be moot.

everything else is indicating my hd is still healthy, the only thing the restoration doesn't want to install is the sysprep factory mode

Once you are running the factory restore you are rebuilding your system and the old McAfee will be a dead duck. But you'll have a nice new trial version to get rid of!

I notice you didn't take the simple suggestion to simply let the factory restore run longer.

If you need to factory restore from DVDs I don't think the netbooks have DVD drives - you'll need to get hold of a portable one.

Yes!

It is the absolute worst AV crapware we see here. Uninstall it using Revo Uninstaller in advanced mode.

Actually I would find a Win7 installation DVD to clean reinstall based on MucAfee´s presence alone.

Kinda makes you wonder why Intel bought it. When I worked there(Intel) as a temp my workstation laptop had it, fortunately it wasn't too much of an issue while I had it.

YES?????? I don't think so.
He's effectively booting into the recovery partition and running the factory restore. McAfee isn't running.
Your solution seems straightforward at this stage with these steps
1) Try the alt 10 factory restore again and be more patient
2) If (1) fails get the restore disks from ACER and try a restore from these
3) If (2) fails replace your HDD and repeat 2)

The title of your question and the discussion has been related to
trying to factory restore acer aspire one d255 but....
If Windows works normally, I am puzzled why you were trying to do a factory restore.
Apart from being confused now as to your objectives I suggested a 3 step way forward. So I'll leave it at that.

Not sure how old that acer is, but you may want to check the serial number on WD support site: WD Support / Warranty & RMA Services

Although it is common for WD to not fully support an OEM installed HDD, they may... or if you are not the original owner, perhaps the previous owner had replaced it. Either way, check the warranty status at their website. It may take a week to get a replacement if it is covered... but free is free!

I have to shut it off during restoration and not all the software gets on the system because it doesn't proceed. I want to know how to Complete the restoration as it is taking hours for the last part (sysprep - factory mode to install)

From your earlier post you indicated that you gave up at ~an hour. If you now say you've given the restore hours to complete without success then that's different.
Assuming the Netbook is out of warrant, Darryl's suggestion regarding the HDD is worth trying.
Are you going to order Acer recovery disks?

You reported that Quick test failed with a read error but Extended test passed. This seems to indicate that Quick repaired the Read error. Run Extended again to be sure, then Disk Check from Command Line if necessary.

The HD Diagnostics test is also a Repair which can return HD to service in conjunction with Disk Check clearing file system errors.

MucAfee is cause of so many random problems seen here that I would not be surprised if it is blocking running Factory Recovery, so either try running it from Disk or find the Win7 Installation DVD to get rid of all the bloatware and have a clean Win7 install. Steps in Perfect Reinstall link in my siggy below.
