Solved Trying to install Windows 7 on 6th Gen Mobo

AddRAM so the install starts OK and loads the files but then says that it cannot install onto the new formatted HDD that I have installed. This is the error "windows cannot be installed to this disc. the selected disc has an MBR partition table. on EFI systems windows can only be installed to GPT discs "

This appears to be related to a BIOS setting as stated here but what are your thoughts please and if this is true do I follow exactly what this guy says and will I find that exact terminology in my BIOS please. Sorry to annoy you again.

Did you delete the drive to unallocated space ?

Your drive has to be initialized as GPT, either that or install in Legacy mode.

You can change from UEFI to Legacy in the Bios, if you want to, but you can easily convert the drive to GPT with the install dvd.

Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk

Option 2 Step 2

The drives are not really labelled particularly well in the BIOS but I changed something around and the install proceeded thankfully. Thank you so much for your help I really appreciate it and have a great weekend :D

EDIT - I also formatted the drive in another PC so maybe that helped who the hell knows what did it but it's done:cool:

Hi,
I always do that too it seems like a more reliable way than doing it during the install :)

To have a GPT disk, boot your Win 7 installation disk under UEFI, go to install - advanced - DELETE ALL Partitions, Create new.
It will create:
- UEFI 100M Fat32 partition,
- MSR -120M - RAW partition
- A big NTFS partition
Install on the big NTFS partition.

Hi,
You don't need to install on a gpt format unless you just like creating a lot of partitions or more than 3-4 of them which mbr only supports that many which is more than should be used anyway
Use a folder system instead of a partition sorting system it is better and less irritating :)

Another reason is because MS always sends out updates that can mess things up like this one :)
Easy fix but unneeded irritations :p

Thanks again to all of you who suggested things and helped. Even if I didn't end up doing it your particular way it was most likely because I couldn't work out how to or I was pursuing another suggestion. Believe you me I tried numerous methods when I was trying the ISO image route but in the end the install from disc was much easier, The lack of USB 3 drivers until all the Windows updates were applied was never an issue as long as I only used the USB 2 ports for the mouse and keyboard :D
