Trying to play Blu-ray discs & cant get it to work. Tried VLC, no dice

The Cole2K pack only installs the codecs. Anything that is installed without an opt-out during the install is fraudulent and very dishonest, regardless of the intention. Toolbars only slow things down in my experience and may Ask for other software.

OK, but now let me know which antivirus/antispyware/antimalware software tags Ask me as a hijacker/spyware and removes it.

AVG did not tag it as a malware. MSE does not tag it as a malware. Month after month Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool runs on my PC and it does not grumble and remove it. Do these lose their credibility too unable to protect my computer from such a serious threat, a hijacker/spyware?

Sorry, I am not advocating Askme (neither have I used it even once in the last five years.) I am also not entering into discussions on the puritans' view that anything installed without one's knowledge is fraudulent. I have stated my experience that I have not found anything that perturbed me to call it a hijacker/spyware and one can always uninstall it without being scared away.

I do know that many programs push Askme. That included Nero, Foxit and Symantec. Foxit even disabled some features if Askme was opted out. Symantec went to great lengths to defend the inclusion of Ask me. But then it is all business.

If Shark007 goes the licensed way, I will be the first one to buy it. He has a winner on hand and it is hightime he does it. He has to get his due without Askme.

Honestly, considering the benefits brought about by his codec packs these had never bothered me to an extent of calling them malware and shun his codec pack altogether. Revo uninstaller is always there to uninstall the unwanted intrusions.

Unwanted=spyware in my opinion. It is completely dishonest and, as you say, intrusive to force-feed a program of ANY kind with no foreknowledge that you are installing it. Period.
If it has to be sent to you in such an under-handed way, there is no way it can be safe.

I downloaded VLC & it still isnt working. Any ideas on what to try?

VLC gives me an error & tells me to check the Log, but I cant find the log?

After completely uninstalling the Shark007 codecs and the Shark007 preconfigured MPC Home Cinema (which I had mentioned earlier and which combination could play my BD), I installed Cole2k Media - Codec Pack V7.9.5 Advanced but WMP12 would not play my BD.

I then uninstalled the Cole2k codec pack and installed the current version of MPC - HC 64bit (x64) v1.5.0.2827. It was able to play my home-made BD without any problem and without any other codec packs.

So you may try the current version of the MPC Home Cinema Download Media Player Classic Home Cinema, Free Video Player Download.

Before trying this, make sure that you uninstall VLC and any other codec pack/s since too many codecs may cause problems. Again you may need a helper like DVDFab Passkey lite in case of copy-protected BDs.(All this provided your BD is not damaged and is playable on a hardware player}

Please do report after trying out this.

Don't waste your time with this nonsense! It will not play a commercial Bluray disc.
If that sofware in post # 2 won't work, then the only alternative is a commercial software bluray player. Like the one I linked in post #10. Or post #7

A friend of mine from Germany has confirmed that MPC Home Cinema does play commercial BDs with DVDFab Passkey lite running in the background. I haven't tried since I do not have a commercial BD and do not want to spend my USDs here on buying one.

An elegant freeware solution if that is the way you want to go.

With DVDFab Passkey you can play the .m2ts files but you can not use any menus. That can be cofusing as many blurays have many files in the stream folder that are randomly numbered. So playing the chapters in order can be frustrating. So it is not elegant for an average user.
Better to rip with passkey and make a .mkv with Handbreak or something similiar.
