I have found this info here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html -

I used it successfully on my win. 7 64 bit system, but now I am trying to use it on a new install of win 7 64 bit on my wife's computer and am having problems, it installed OK but when I try to use the "take ownership" cmd. on a file inside the "Users" folder it just runs forever (the black screen with white letters), I finally x'ed out and now the file inside the "user" folder no longer shows a "pad lock" but a "short cut " symbol and I still do not have access to the file "all users" -

She has NO password and is set up as an Admin., I do use a password on my computer (only difference) I can think of

Any ideas

Thanks

Joe

In command prompt
Code:
c:
cd \users
dir/a

Do you see "ALL USERS" is just a symbolic link to C:\ProgramData

Apparently I don't understand everything I know about trying to take ownership of files and folders in win.7, had to format again after trying to apply "take Ownership" to certain files, I do not believe it is the "take ownership's" fault but more likely "user error" :(

So I will mark this post as "solved" for now and maybe try again later -
