Solved Tuneup, that went wrong

I have been running some time with this values from a file called "speed up win7.reg"

It seems now that I have added a 3Tbyte HDD, my SSD is sometime loosing data when shutting the PC down.

But I can't remember the default values for all these settings. Can somebody please write then, or make me a .regfile with default values?

First get rid of speed up Windows it's not needed.

Yeah those "tunning" things often cause more harm than good and more if they are registry based!

Lets stop kidding ourselves. Once one of those goofy tune up programs has chewed on Windows 7 it is all over except a Clean Install. You could spend a half a lift time rope a doping the registry trying to fix it.

It is not a program that I ran! It is "only" a small .reg file that I installed. It has the values from #0. No program was running to "speed up" my Windows 7.

Thanks #3, I'll try to type them in and see if that is enough.

In my opinion running a tune up program and let it change things is no different than you taking parts of the tune up program and making the changes manually yourself. One assumes when one makes changes to AAA that it only effect AAA. That is not always true. It could of made changes to many things that one would not be aware of. Many things could depend on AAA working properly or they won't work properly. What tune up program are you referring to?

Before making any changes like this "tuneup", or anything you are not 100% sure of

• Backup the registry
• Create a System Restore Point
• Create a System Backup Image

System Backup Images should be created periodically for the best recovery ability!

A System Backup Image is a FULL "system snapshot".
Registry Backups and Restore Points are only a PARTIAL "system snapshot".

I agree you should System Restore to before you made the bad decision.

Then work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 to possibly resolve your performance issues, especially the Clean Boot, comb the logs, use System Resources.

How is Ultimate activated?

I did make a backup of the reg.database before adding the values, but that backup is now over 6 month old, and a lot of other things has happend since then. That is why I can't restore back to before I doubbelclicked on the .reg-file with the values in #0.
It has worked fine and stable for 6 month, just after adding a 3 Tbyte HDD it is giving me some troubble.

It is NOT a program that I have been running. It is a simple text-file called "speed up Windows 7.reg" that I doubbleclicked on to import the values in the reg.database. All I need is the default value from a "normal" Windows 7 x64 to restore it back to default values.

Whether it is a program or a .reg file, it still managed to mess up your computer. Since System Restore isn't an option, I recommend you make a Windows Easy Transfer file: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11470-windows-easy-transfer-transfer-computers.html so you can restore your program data back after you reinstall as well as a backup of your important data just in case the Windows Easy Transfer file doesn't work.

You stated the problem started when you added a 3 TB HD.
I've read about people having problems with a HD/partition > 2 TB.

Can you test these scenario's:
- Do you have the problem when the 3 TB is not connected ?
- Can you partition the 3 TB HD so each partition is < 2 TB ?

I do agree with everything said about tuneup's, registry cleaners, etc.
But I'm wondering if your issue isn't caused by the 3 TB HD/partition.
Just guessing here...

I'm logged in as a Standard User and I don't have the registry entries you asked about...
Do you log in as an Admin user?

All I want is the default values for the entries in #0. No special .dll or others. If some of the entries is not present in your installation, then I guess they are not part of a clean Windows 7 installation, and could therefore be deleted. I don't know which they are so I have not deleted anything.

#12 It is a little difficult as it is a random error. I can't get it to show when I want. Only thing I do know is, that when the error comes it is ALWAYS at shutdown or shutting down windows for a reboot. Not at every shutdown, but sometimes. It is like something is not giving enough time to "save data", clear cache or something similar. So I'm not sure how to test for it. I have not seen this error before putting the new HDD in the PC, and therefore I assume it _might_ have something to do with this.

In post # 12 I asked if you log in with an Admin account.
I normally login with a STANDARD account, and that may be why I don't see the registry entries you are asking about.

I can boot up Win7 64 Bit or 32 Bit, with a Standard or Admin account, and check what i find in the registry for the keys you are asking about.

I don't want to post my results without knowing I am starting Windows the same way you do...
My findings may be different, cause confusion, or be wrong information...

If you tell me how you boot up - 64Bit or 32Bit, ADMIN or STANDARD user,
I'll boot the same way and let you know what I find.

Generally speaking, regedit's, such as the one you used, have an "undo" associated with them; ie, an edit that reverses the changes. If you go to the location where you downloaded the "speed up win7.reg" there may well be an "undo" there.

The problem may, also, be associated with your 3TB drive as mentioned by DavidW7ncus.

You could also check the support page for your motherboard.
Maybe there is a newer BIOS that fixes issues with > 2TB harddrives?

I read your post about backing up the registry but what does that have to do with running System Restore? Do you not have a Restore point? If not then just say so. Don't make up reasons you can't run it.

It remains your best option if there is as restore point, unless you want to take this opportunity to get a perfect Clean Reinstall which makes needing a "tune-up" unnecessary.

Win7 is always fast and never hangs with a perfect install on adequate hardware.

First of all, I am Britton30, not #13, everyone else also has a name as well. I don't know what you mean by #0? I was only trying to get proper feedbackas to what you have done and the exact results to all steps taken. We need that to help you. :huh:

I don't think anyone can legally give you w7 reg keys due to copyright issues with MS.

EDIT: I have been told reg keys should be OK.

Solution found. I tried the values from #3, deleting the other entries from the file (I did make a backup og reg.database before doing so). It seems it was the "WaittokillServiceTimout" that was too low. I have now set it at 1500, and so far everything seems OK.
So I see this as solved, and has mark the tread as so. Hope that is OK?
