Hey guys !
I just found the solution about my previous post some time ago. I cant find it anymore here.
In two words i was wondering why win7 doesn't send the shutdown instruction to the usb hard drive or usb flash drive when you choose from the menu to safely disconnect the device from your computer.
Till now when i choose to safely disconnect the usb drive the disks inside the drive is still running and the heads are over the plates.
This is very bad bad bad for hard disks.
When you turn off the power by force, that means the heads are still over the plates, this is risky coze if the plates top spinning and the heads are still over the plates this will permanently destroy the hard drive.
With this solution this problem goes away forever 100%.
You must do the same as this solution on 32 or 64bit windows.
Making a 64bit registry doesn't work, i tried, so you do the same on 32 and 64bit windows.
This fix makes the hard drive to shut itself down safely by sending instructions to the heads to go back into the safe zone and then makes the plates to stop spinning.
It is easy and you all can do it for the better life of your usb hard drives <3
You must love them coze they store all your files so you better do that.
Here it is:
Here are the steps to enable powering off USB port after it has been safely removed.
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
4. Type HubG for the name of the new key, and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
6. Type DisableOnSoftRemove for the name of the DWORD Value, and then press ENTER.
7. Right-click DisableOnSoftRemove, and then click Modify.
8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
9. Exit Registry Editor and restart your computer for the change to take effect.
You can confirm if this solution works by putting the hard drive on your ears and listening what is going on.
When you choose to safe remove you will hear that the heads are making some litle noise, that means they are sended back to the safe zone, then you will hear that the plates stops spinning and you are ready to disconnect it from the computer
Here the solution works great on usb flash memory too.
If that works for you let me know by saying thanks
and try to share this to everyone you can
