If seekermeister is correct, it would be my suggeston to do a clean install, now. The small problem that you have now, will be nothing compared to what may happen in the future. A upgrade, is like washing and waxing an old car, looks great, looks new, but just wait until you get stuck some night.
It might be the Protection software.
What Firewall or Anti-virus application do you use ??
Also it's worth to create a New Windows Profile ( Administrator ) and try it there

Why not try turning them off, then see if you still have the problem. If problem is solved, good luck. If not we can try another solution. If you can you will be safer if you get off the net.
