I am interested in buying a Plextor PCIe SSD M6e(A) Black for a performance upgrade.
Plextor SSD Storage Solutions | Products | M6e(A) Black Edition

I emailed Plextor support with a system compatibility question & they replied within 20 minutes.

He stated: "Check your boards bios to see if it has CSM and that it is enabled
because you will need this feature enabled to boot from a PCIe drive."

I have a ECS A890GXM-A v2.0 mobo. details at:
ECS > A890GXM-A (V2.0)

and it does have a PCIe x4 slot (Gen2, PCI v2.0 compliant) but does not have a UEFI BIOS nor can I find any reference to Compatibility Support Module (CSM). Does this mean I cannot use a SSD with a PCIe connection or are there work-arounds, hotfix's, etc. to make this work? I have read that Windows 7 is a little finicky when it comes to SSD PCIe connections/drivers and such. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Not sure why you'd want to use pci-e when you have 5 sata ports ?
Not to mention you also have a esata port on the back too :/
Code:
5 x Serial ATA 6Gb/s connectors

From what I've read & researched, PCIe SSD's avoid the sata "bottleneck" & get much better performance. It's a moot point now because ECS support says I do need a UEFI bios to use them. My board is over 5 years old but I have less than 30 days uptime on it since 2011. We got a bunch of new smartphones/tablets/pads etc. around that time so I basically only used it to make changes to the modem or router, but now that I'm using it I wanted to try to get the best performance out of it. Oh well, sata 6g/s will certainly make a huge difference anyway. Thanks for replying.

Hi,
It would be as fast as it can be using sata
Pci-e would be slower I'm sure bottleneck or not which I say not if you need more performance upgrade or add more memory or a faster processor ;)
