Suddenly I no longer can add folders to my themes .

Also some of the theme folders that I had working previously gets stuck at the first slide and the slide show no longer works. When I try to change to the next image from the desktop nothing happens.

I have tried sfc scanner and it is OK
No malware found with Malwarebytes
Power option slide show is available

When I run : %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes

The Rename option is not available for transcodedwallpaper.jpg
Wallpaper.ini not found

Not sure what to try next

Tks

Hi sportflyer,

This is Jackson form Dell Social Media team.

In response to your query you can try doing system restore ( All programs->Accessories->System tools-> System restore ) to the date that it was working before.
Or You can create a new user profile and check.

Hope this helps,

Please do let me know if you need any further help.

Thank you,

I am trying not to do a system restore . I dont remember exactly when it started to behave this way. Could be two weeks or more ago. I only noticed this when I wanted to add a new folder to My Themes.

I will create new user profile and check.

Scan now says no problems.

Changing background pictures and changing themes works for all existing folders already in My Themes .

I just cannot add a new folder with pictures to My themes. When I click on Browse , I locate the file , then click OK but then nothing happens .The pictures within that chosen folder won't load. This used to work . I only noticed it stopped working when I wanted to add new vacation pictures . All picture folders have the correct permissions for sharing to everybody.

I have tried deleting contents of slideshow.ini but it does not help . Maybe I should build a new one ?

I would just move my stuff to the new profile where it does work.

If you want to try making a new theme and see if that works, it can't hurt to try.

Hi sportflyer,

To repair the corrupted profile you can try this

Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Or

you can simply transfer the data to the new profile which is working fine and delete the corrupted one.

Hope this helps,

Thank you,

Jackson Walter

sfc /sannow did not reveal any abnormalities .

It looks like I need to create a new profile because there seems no good way to find what is corrupted .

BTW when I inspected the contents of Documents and Settings I see several NTUSER.DAT{xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}.Tm.blf etc Are these to be copied over to the new profile ?

I would just leave them, move all your personal stuff and give it a few days before getting rid of the corrupt profile, just to be on the safe side.

When I setup the system, I only have OS and program files on C Drive . The actual data like .PST , photos ,etc are in a different disk partition D . I suppose I dont have to do anything with D drive.

It looks like the Desktop Wall paper is finally working as expected after creation of a new Profile and migrating my documents over.
