Hi

I have just upgraded my connection and installed a new router. This kit and connection works perfectly connecting wirelessly with my laptop. My desktop machine is not connecting.

The desktop used to connect by direct cable to my router but since the upgrade the new router is in a different position and a cable connection is not a practical option.

I bought a Belkin Surf+ Wireless Adapter (802.11n ) and installed it. The specs say that it is Win 7 compatible. Even so I went to the Belkin website and downloaded the drivers from there. The installation went smoothly. The adapter is recognised and is listed in the device manager as working correctly and is enabled.

However the 'Network Icon' in the task bar shows the no connections are available. Going to the Network and Sharing centre and clicking on 'Connect to a network' produces the same result - no connections available.

Clicking on 'Manage Wireless Networks' produces a blank list (there should be at least 2 networks available - my own and a neighbour's). Clicking 'Add' and 'manually create a network profile' produces a screen with the message 'An unexpected error occurred'.

I am using Win 7 64 bit Home Premium and an 802.11n wireless router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Good morning Ian, may I suggest that you hard wire connect the desktop to the router along with the wireless adaptor and re-load and install the belkin drivers? Let Windows 7 perfrom this function instaead of Belkin perform it.

Hi

I uninstalled all Belkin drivers and allowed Windows to search for and download drivers. Windows update detected an update for the drivers - this failed to download due to an unspecified error. When Windows searched for a solution it said that there was a problem with the drivers! So same result as before.

I have a cabled connection to my router using a pair of 'Home-plug' adapters which uses the house mains wiring system - its working very well. While a more expensive solution than the wireless adapter I'm happy enough to forgo the wireless option as it is a desktop machine.

Thanks for your help.
