Unable to connect to ANY wireless network

Just started having problems connection to any network or internet. Have new lappy that was working great until today. I am going out of town for a while and I was setting up my Slingbox. Somewhere along the line, I lost ANY connections, even to the router.

Have tried 3 different restore points. Can connect with wire to the router & get internet.

HP, 64 bit.

Any ideas?

have you installed any software with fake networking such as virtual box recently? also, have you fiddled with the wireless network adapter settings? I did so and it messed up all connections :/
also, may sound like a dumb quetion, but have you accidentally flicked a wireless switch or pressed a button on the laptop that turns it off?

Nothing installed in last 3 weeks.
Have looked at adapter settings after the problem started but not changed.
Wifi switch is on.

I get a "Attempting to Autheticate" message when troubleshooting. The network icon (next to the clock) is showing a rotating circle (like it's busy).

so it worked before but just stopped? I would recommend you search the HP website for the right drivers for your laptop's wireless card and re-install them. Their website is generally a pain, but my laptop has been saved many a time by their driver pages.
Yeah, the circle thing is generally it trying to connect or do something.
I would recommend you buy a cheap wireless usb adapter just to fully discern if it's just the internal wireless is messed up. if this problem is only fixed by that, then you may want get a high quality unobtrusive wireless N one.

What other wireless network have you tried to connect to? Have you verified that your router's wireless setup is correct?

What does ipconfig /all show?

Click on Start then Run and paste the following into the Run box, exactly as show, including double quotes:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close.

I tried updating the drivers (no new ones) and as I was running out time I did a reset to factory specs. I can now connect to my home network just great BUT when I tried to connect at the local Hot Spot, I connect to the server but the browsers (IE/Firefox) will not. The icon shows connected with excellent strength.

I have run out of ideas.

congratulations getting back the connection to your wifi
Is the local hotspot a browser based login thing? For example, in England some motorway services offer free wifi and you can connect, but to get Internet working, you have to login in a web browser.

biggles- Yes, you need to have a browser to login. That's the problem! The browsers don't connect even when the Network & Sharing Center say I'm connected to the internet.

The browser comes on but only states that the server may be busy or having some other problem and to try later. Other people around me have no problem.
