Have a dell latitude e6410 with windows 7 professional I7core. Following instructions from this forum on creating dual boot with xp. Xp disc begins to boot then get message "File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded The error code is 7." Found advice to repair registry. Ran a couple free programs. Then read such programs are dangerous to run. Still have problem afraid to run more reg repair programs. Also read message could mean bad memory. But it runs great in windows 7 no problems whatsoever.

Don't have specific solution but the conventional wisdom is to always install the oldest version of Windows first then the newer version should be settable for the boot choices.

How did you run the disastrous Registry Cleaners for XP if it wont' start? Don't tell me you ran them from Win7? If so immediately System Restore to before you tried to ruin your install.

Then boot into XP disk, second Repair choice, in Command Window type fixmbr and then fixboot to see if it will start. If not you may need to run a XP Repair Install if you cannot do without the old XPired OS: Repair Windows XP by Performing a Repair Install

This will start XP but will steal the boot from Win7 so you'll need to boot into the Win7 disk to run Startup Repair. Note now in Win7 Disk Mgmt which partition is marked Active because you may need to use the disk Command Line to confirm it is still marked Active lest the repairs will not work. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/71432-partition-mark-active.html

Then when Win7 starts, add XP using EasyBCD from WIn7.

why are you trying to dual boot windows 7 with a dead os anyway??:sarc:
