Hi to all,
I'm new to this forum, the reason I'm here is that I (apparently like a whole lot of others) am finding it impossible to create a working dual boot system. For those who wonder why I need a dual boot system, long story short, I have a number of programs and related hardware that won't load let alone run on Windows 7. Per the vendors no updates patches or any kind of support is available. Yes, I've tried running a virtual machine, a couple of programs require hardware acceleration and that's the end on that. When I joined your site, I provided all the relevant information about my system, hopefully that is available to you, if not I will gladly provide it to you. Now, down to what I've done.

My new machine has no available floppy disk drive, therefore using nLite I created a set up disk using Windows XP Pro (2003) with SP3, I followed the tutorials provided by the folks on your site. They were very clear and concise, I had no problems whatsoever. Prior to integrating the drivers, I contacted ASUS and asked them how to locate and integrate the correct driver(s) for my system. I was advised to use the drivers that came with the support disk for the motherboard. (ASUS Sabertooth Z87 with an INTEL 7440K processor) The drivers I integrated were iaAHCIC.inf Copyright (c) 2009-2013 Intel Corporation
; **********************************************************************************************
; ** Filename: iaAHCIC.inf
; ** Revision: 01/22/2013,12.0.0.1082
; ** Abstract: Windows* INF File for AHCI Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver
; ** Installs: RST AHCI Controller Miniport
; **********************************************************************************************

The second inf file was ; Copyright (c) 2009-2013 Intel Corporation
; **********************************************************************************************
; ** Filename: iaStorAC.inf
; ** Revision: 01/22/2013,12.0.0.1082
; ** Abstract: Windows* INF File for AHCI Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver
; ** Installs: RST AHCI RAID Controller Miniport + RST Filter Driver
; **********************************************************************************************

The file appeared in the integration file as Intel PNP SCSI Adapter.
My next step was to run the install disk, It resulted in a BSOD. The screen stated that Windows has shut down this action to prevent damage to the computer.
Based on the information I've read on your site, it looks like maybe ASUS gave me wrong information or I don't have the correct SATA driver. I'm at my wits end, between Microsoft and ASUS, I've been kicked around like a soccer ball. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You All
Dave D

Not exactly sure what the problem is. You create at least 2 partitions on your hard drive, you then install XP 1st and W7 second.

Exactly what drivers and which operating system are you having a problem with ?

The sata drivers during the XP install ?

Have you tried install with SATA controller set to AHCI first, then if necessary IDE mode?

If so it could be a bad installer. Are you slipstreaming a SP3 disk only?

As the ASUS Sabertooth Z87 has a UEFI/BIOS firware, is Windows 7 installed in UEFI mode?
If YES. Win XP will not install on same HDD as Windows 7.

Also Asus show no drivers for WinXP.

Hi folks,

Thanks for all your kind help, I think Theog might be closest to the problem so, here's some clarification.

Windows 7 was installed first in the configuration he mentioned. My system is in a RAID 1 configuration managed by INTEL. When I found that some of the programs I used most wouldn't load, I downloaded nLite, obtained what I believed to be the correct drivers, (confirmed by ASUS) and made a bootable disk. I repartitioned my disks by "shrinking" them XP started to install, and was halted by Windows (BSOD) So, here I am. I'm reasonably good with computers, but this has proven to be tough. If needed, I can reformat and start over.

Well I'm not Theog but might I suggest you unplug all other HD's, wipe the target HD first?

You also didn't reply if you are using SP3 installer or which SATA mode you are trying.

I'm attempting to install XP Pro with SP3 dated 2003

You need three HDD's.

Two for your raid, with Windows 7 x64 installed in UEFI mode.

One for Win XP x32 installed in Legacy Mode, which will only boot from the One Time Boot Menu.

Hi Theog,

I appreciate your help, believe me this has proven to be been a real ordeal for me. I've never had to do this before so kindly forgive my ignorance. If you could give me a brief "how to" I would be in your debt. I'm not sure how to install in the Legacy mode, or what if anything I need to do in BIOS, I don't know if I can need to configure the new drive to IDE mode, and leave the others in RAID, should I temporarily remove the W7 drives from the system while the third drive is configured etc. BTW, your Nlite tutorial was awesome, concise and well executed. If possible I would like to be able to contact you directly.

Thanks
Dave D

1) ENABLE CSM in the UEFI/BIOS firmware.
2) Set CSM to UEFI & Legacy OS.

Capture CSM.PNG

3) Test the Windows 7 UEFI will still boot.
4) Remove Windows 7 RAID HDD's. (Raid NOT RECOMMENDED)
5) Fit Win XP HDD as third HDD.
6) Install Win XP, when booting OK with all drivers installed.
7) Refit Windows 7 HDD's as first & second.
8) Set Windows Boot Manager as first boot device.
9) Test that Windows 7 will boot without using the One Time Boot Menu.
10) Test that Win XP will boot from the One Time Boot Menu.

Also Asus show no drivers for WinXP.

You will also need
Video card
Sound card
Net card
With Win XP drivers.

Hi Theog,

Thanks again for all your kind help, but I've reached the conclusion that the cost of doing this project outweighs the benefits. My network and audio are all integrated into the ASUS motherboard, I have a GS660 video card, It makes absolutely no sense for me to duplicate everything twice just to make XP run. My XP machine works fine, I'll keep it around and have two machines instead of one that does both. Most of the systems I've dealt were for the most part backward compatable, it's certainly not the case here. It's all apples and oranges. Again, I appreciate all the help you and the group have been to me, it's nice to have somewhere to go to get help.
