During an installation of Access from Office 2000 onto my new Desktop PC it was aborted near the end and I have been left with a Folder on my HD called: $AV_ASW. Research has shown that this was placed there by Avast anti virus.
I have been trying to delete it without success, I even tried to uninstal AVast thinking that would get rid of the folder but that did not work, in fact Avast has not deleted properly. It it not showing in my programs but is still on my HD. I far as I am aware I am the administrator yet trying to delete both these folders gives the same error message:
"You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this folder"
Can anyone help with getting them deleted. The version of Windows 7 on my new PC is 7 Ultimate.

Thanks for the replies.
Right clicking on the folders did not work and I cannot use Avast because I uninstalled it via control panel > remove programs, although that did not work properly it stopped me from using it. I really needed to overcome the administrator problem but in any case my system seems to have been corrupted due to all the attempts to sort the issue so I have today sent it back to the suppliers and asked them to wipe the hard drive then perform a clean install.
I will mark this thread as resolved as it cannot be progressed further.

For future visitors to the topic I will post what I sometimes do with folders that won't delete otherwise.

Had you tried this or similar?

open command prompt at parent directory, then:

(example deleting a folder named R:\bad\folder1 and all contents):

1st highlight R:\bad and right click, "open command prompt here", then rd /s /q (folder name):

R:\bad>rd /s /q folder1

Thanks for the reply dave99 I was not checking or expecting further posts as the thread was marked as solved.

I did not try your suggestion at the time because the computer seemed to have become corrupted so I sent it back. It has been returned and everything is working fine now, the company have wiped it then did a new install. This is a longer term replacement for my existing old HP Pavilion with Windows 7 Home Premium. This model is an HP Tower Workstation Z240 with a very high spec. It was Windows 10 originally but I had the company remove it and install Windows 7 Professional.

It has came back now with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 installed.
