I'm running Windows 7 64bit. A few weeks ago, computer started running strange... random freezes, choppy audio etc. Figure some kind of virus, despite none being found.

Anyway, after having the entire thing freeze and not being able to get it to restart without freezing, I decided to do a complete factory reset. That's when the fun started.

First time through, I was able to get to the system recovery through my desktop, but upon starting it, at about 40% it froze and wouldn't move, even after being left on all night. Regretfully, I manually restarted the computer only to be met with a black screen informing that the bootmgr couldn't be found and to restart. Restarting, of course, did nothing but bring that screen up again and again.

I played around with a few things, but nothing would let me either enter my desktop or even get to the system recovery through the load screen. I was able to make a image copy of the boot files on another computer, which would take me to an installation screen which would then inform me that it couldn't locate the drivers. Frustrated, I finally took the thing in and was informed that my OS was gone, and that I would need the recovery discs. So I contacted HP, had them overnight the discs and that's where I am now.

The first time I tried to run through the discs, when it got to the installing original software, it hit 1% and didn't move. For seven hours. Upon advice from a friend (albeit misguided), I manually turned it off and left it until today. This time when I ran through them, it got to 26% (after hanging at 25% for nearly an hour and a half) before I got an error telling me that windows had shut down and to restart the computer. Did that, open the boot menu to start from disc, only to be bounced over to another screen with the following:

Done.

Press (F10) to enter setup.

Hitting F10 does nothing. Hitting anything does nothing. It doesn't even initially load on the Windows/HP screen. I have no options to load anything else. I'm stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

(Sorry about the novel :) )

Hello shaytoday, welcome to Seven Forums!

You may want to consider the method(s) below to do a clean install and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media; if you can find an exact Windows version that the PC shipped with you can do a clean install using the activation key on the COA sticker attached to the PC though it may require a robo-call to MS to sort the OEM batch-key.

How to Activate Windows 7 by Phone

If you can't find an exact same version, you could use the info in this tutorial to create an "all versions" installer of any version Windows installer, to install using the same method I posted above.

Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create

After you have made backups of everything you care to save, the best method is to do a complete wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive first, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old drivers/programs, giving you the best possible space to install Windows to.

Memory Bank 1 looks a problem.
Try running memtest86 from a boot CD.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

I'd ask HP about your BIOS information on memory bank1. Is your PC under warranty? If so I wouldn't open it up as it may be a return job.
