I decided to do an in situ repair of my installation of Windows 7 because various things such as the Administrative Tools and Winzip no longer run. As soon as I click on them I get a message saying "Microsoft Management Console has stopped working". SFC has been unable to solve the problem. Winzip technical support advised me to uninstall Winzip and gave me a link to a new file to download and install, but the installation failed because " .NET Assembly Registration Utility stopped working"

However, when I followed the instructions found in Seven Forums I got another error message that said that I could not upgrade Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Professional.

I am running Windows 7 SP1 but only have an Windows 7 (without SP1) installation CD so I followed the instructions about making the setup file compatible with Vista SP2 which resulted in the message above.

Can anyone help either with how to do a repair to Windows 7 or to get MMC working? I would be very grateful for any advice

Thanks for the link seavixen. That is the method that I had tried and I went to Step 5 (using a Windows 7 installation disc to repair Windows 7 SP1), but it didn't work. I would be happy to remove SP1 but I can't see how to do it., so perhaps it is too late to remove it now
