Unable to Install Service Pack 1

I'm having a problem with the Windows Update and have reached the frustrating conclusion that the SP1 update just doesn't want to install on my desktop.

I continuously get the "code 80070005" error every time SP1 tries to install. I've looked at and run just about every "fix" suggested on this and other forums, but nothing has solved the problem.

Should I just ignore the SP1 update and install the other security updates as they become available?

Welcome to SevenForums. I googled this and by chance did you update your OS from Vista to W7?

No, it came installed with Win7

Well good news is you've got full function of the system till this gets resolved as I'll do some additional checking around on this but you've come to the right place and as they say the Cavalry is coming !

As well what Anti Virus and Firewall are you using?

I don't use MSN or have it installed. I'm using MS Security Essentials for AV and firewall.

This is kind of a stretch but have you tried the update in safe mode with networking?

* Often error 80070005, ‘Access Denied,’ is caused by the security software running on your computer.
You can try turning all off and try the updates again.
Note: Please make sure that you turn everything on once you finish running the update.

* The error code 80070005 can also mean that you do not have enough permission to install updates.
