Hello
For years, I use a custom madencomputer where Windows 7 has been installed by the,"builder"
Unfortunately, he made a spelling mistake and gave an incorrect User name : "Propriétarie" misspelling and use of an accented letter, as I'm french).
It was fine until a few weeks ago, when I tried to install several products who failed to install.
The developpers of these programs immediately asked me if I had a "special" character in the user's name and the faulty "é" in my name was the cause of the problem
So, i defined a new user name "Serge" and tried to link this name to the profile in the "Users" directory
I read many tutorials, but nothing worked ;-(

I would like to have a common name shared by my User Account and the associated Profile, and both without "foreign" characters

What would be the steps to get this ?

Thanks Have a good day

If that fails create a New Admin-level User Account: User Account - Create - Windows 7 Help Forums

After moving everything over, once you're sure you have it all you can delete the old User account, however it will remains in some places due to security measures for the original installed account.

If you have any performance issues or your install is less than the perfect one depicted here then this would be a good time to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - same steps for retail.

Thank you
Following your advices and all the tutorials ,I created 2 User accounts "Serge" and "SYF" and have the corresponding folders u der C:\users (or thje equivalent in french !).
But, I wanted to get rid off the "old" profile and deleted the folder and the profile reference... and everything went wrong
But fortunately, I took a disk backup before and was able to restore

But I wonder if the "old" profile and "user account" are referred somewhere in the new accounts.
It's not a problem, I can live with it, but I'm just curious !

Anyway, many thanks for your help Have a good day

It would help if you'd tell us how "everything went wrong" when you attempted to delete the old profile?

Did you attempt this from Control Panel>User Accounts>Manage another Account, from your new Admin-level account?
