Unable to open some files on external HDD

Hi,

I recently purchased a laptop and hooked up my Seagate HDD to access different files on there (music and videos mainly). The HDD was originally connected to my desktop. Both systems run
Win7 Professional 64-bit.

However, on the laptop, there are some files (it seems to be older ones) that I can't run from the hard drive. I have to copy them to my actual hard drive in order to run them. Trying to rename one of these files yields "
File Access Denied: You'll need to provide administrator permission to rename this file" even though I only have one account on here which is the admin.

Is there any way just to do a clean wipe of the
security restrictions so I don't have to worry about this?

I tried taking ownership of the drive and all its contents but that didn't seem to change anything.

Thanks in advance.

Did you click on Property ->Security Tab to view permissions? And click on Advanced as well.

Don't know, or would recommend a global change. chmod would work in UNIX, but I'd limit that to a folder at most.
