unable to play data cd's onto dvd rw drive

Help

Just upgraded to win 7 ultimate. Installation went well but -
my _NEC DVD_RW ND-3520AW ATA drive cannot read data cd/dvd only audio & blank cd's. In device mamagement it looks ok.

tried to boot with disbling the signature enforcement
did the same using the command line, looked for upperfilter in registry and even upgraded the nec driver after 4 years it was working file

Anyone ?

4 years - the lens has become dirty after all that time causing issues. Open and clean with alcohol and q-tip. Dry with another q-tip.

If that fails, update firmware for the drive itself from manufacturer's website.

I suggest in that order because that is order of likelihood for your problem by a large margin.

They're cheap enough though nowadays if you can't seem to fix it. Good luck.

Last chance you have then is updating the chipset drivers for your motherboard.
Bios update for the motherboard is always good as long as done carefully following instructions.
