I recently installed Windows 7 64bit on the second partition of my main HDD. It worked flawlessly until I restarted earlier today. Now whenever I boot into Windows 7 the login screen shows up with my account, but when i attempt to enter my password the keystrokes are not registering.

I have tried using all 8 usb ports in the back of my comp, but the keyboard still does not work. My usb mouse works fine. I can also boot and login to Windows XP, on the other partition with no problems, and the keyboard works fine.

Any insight or help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try rebooting...Maybe if you are dual booting the drivers are getting messed up.

Yeah, i have been at this for a while, so id say ive rebooted about 10+ times, ive tried safe mode, ive tried last know configuration, ive tried booting form my windows 7 disc and repairing/system restore, and i tried reseting and upgrading my bios. Nothing works. The only course of action i see is to reinstall Win7, but i wanted to post on the forums to see if any one else had a better idea.

*probly should have put all that in the original post sorry*

Boot and go into CMOS (probably DEL key)... Go to "integrated peripherals" and in USB settings enable legacy support, keyboard and mouse support, and then save & exit... Since it was already working this is a stretch but worth trying.

My system does the no keyboard trick occassionally. Usually unplugging and plugging in the keyboard will fix it. If not, next time you get in, check your chipset drivers.

Of course, trying another keyboard might help, but if it always works in XP, then it is probably not the keyboard.

Simply unplugging the computer from the power supply and then replugging after about 5 minutes works sometimes with usb recognition problems. Ya it sounds bizarre but try it.
Another thing that could be tried.....Do you have a bootable flash drive? Go to the manufacture's website and download the latest drivers for your keyboard, put them on the flash drive. Boot from the flash drive and reinstall the keyboard driver, then reboot into win7.

Ok, so i tried what Bill2 suggested, i unplugged the power supply from my comp for a few minutes, plugged stuff back in and rebooted. I am now able to login to Windows 7 with no problems. I have no idea how/why that worked but it seemed to do the trick. I am now able to use my shiny new OS. Thanks for the help.

And so now you know, some usb items, mainly keyboards, are not picked up right away by windows or the bios.
Whenever I installed XP 99% of the time I had to use a PS2 keyboard and mouse.
I still use PS2 keyboards on all my pcs because they always work.

I also only use a PS2 kb, the problem is a lot of mobos only have 1 PS2 and I've seen some that don't even have 1 PS2 connector.

Clean Instal unless someone comes up with another option.

BTW, as the laptop came with Win7 installed but no DVD, can I use the OEM password on a version that i download?
