Unchecking IE8 In Windows 7 (HP) Programs & Features

Haven't used IE in many years.
I'm wondering if there is any downside to unchecking it ??

Yes - Control Panel/Programs and Features - Turn Windows Features on Off:


De-select Internet Explorer and then press YES, then press OK.


However I recommend you update to Internet Explorer 9 using Windows Update or downloading it here.

As it is more secure and will not re-enable when you Windows Update.

I've also got my disabled, pointless if your using a better browser(s).

Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off

I have no desire to use IE again. FF suits me fine.

Not really, it is basically a backup browser for me (even though I have 3 browsers - other than IE), for example if FF stops working and it is not just your Internet you still have IE and you can always enable it any point

However if you have UAC Enabled it will add better security to IE too.
