Unidentified Network is the ONLY network listed.

Hello All,
My brother rebooted his computer and a network connection problem. Everyone of his Network Connections get automatically listed under Unidentified Network (Public Network) and there is no other network being created, like the default Network.


1. He don't have the Bojour Service loaded.
2. He doesn't use Adobe CS3, he has CS4.
3. We have tried
3.a ROUTE DELETE 0.0.0.0 then adding in our own route.

3.b netsh winsock reset catalog
3.c netsh int ip reset reset.log


What happens is that when we reboot, the adapters go through a discovery phase. But instead of creating a new Network which we can configure as Home, Work or Public, it always puts the Network Connections (ex Local Area Connection 5) under the Unidentified network.


We have been at this for hours, there doesn't seem to be a way for us to create a new Network then assign an adapter to it. It would be nice to be able to drag and drop this stuff around, but you can't. I have been reading forums too death, but nothing seems to work.



Does anyone know how to get that default Network to appear on reboot? What we want to happen is like the first time you turn on windows. It identifies a new network, then it ASKS YOU what to do with it.


Any help PLEASE? Otherwise we will have to redo the whole computer.

What settings have you set in Network and Sharing Center/Advanced Settings?

Also what antivirus and firewall have you installed?

Hello,

Under the Advanced Sharing Settings (Public), we have tried Turning on and off Network discovery and the other settings.

As for Firewall and AV, we use MS Security Essentials and Windows 7 Firewall.

We might have found a solution, but we are still testing as the connection was unstable. We bridged both Ethernet ports together and this seemed to form the creation of the identified blank "Network" that we were looking for, but the connection keeps going up and down. We are still working with it.

Hi Roger,

If you have not resolved your issue yet, ps. try the following:

Power Cycle all devices.

Update your router's firmware to the latest.

If your network is secured, remove it for now, test the connection after. If you're able to connect then apply WPA2 in your router then match the same setting in your computer with the correct network encryption.
