So I am trying to connect my Xbox 360 to my laptop's WiFi so I can access Xbox Live.

I have them connected via an Ethernet cable and I have media sharing turned on for my Xbox. :sarc:

I am also running Windows 7 Ultimate if that helps too.

Thanks, Vexelior.

If you are trying to share access to your internet from a ethernet cable between your laptop and the xbox then you need to make sure that Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is turned on and configured correctly.

So you want to share the wireless connection through the Ethernet port to the Xbox. This can be tricky to do correctly.

In order for the NIC to have the share option you need to be using Windows 7 approved drivers.

Because "Internet Connection Sharing" uses the 192.168.0.0 Subnet (the Host PC has the address 192.168.0.1 and allocates addresses to Client computers in the range 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254), your router needs to be operating in a different Subnet to avoid an IP addressing conflict. If the third 'octet' (number) of your router's own IP address is "0", change it to 1 or 2 etc.

Otherwise the laptop or Xbox could end up with the same IP as the router. This is probably why you are seeing the unidentified network problem.

There are also tutorials on this but they don't mention the real possibility of the routers gateway being used as the IP for the laptop or Xbox. Following the steps in the paragraph above will fix that type of problem.

I was taught that ICS used 192.168.137.1 as the default. I have never actually configured one so I could be way off.

From what I read it starts with 192.168.0.1 and works it's way up which would cross into the routers default gateway "Unidentified Network" unless it's changed.

I think this is why so many people have trouble setting this up wireless>Ethernet ICS, and having it work reliably every time.

The ipconfig's from his machine will tell us more.

Thanks you, Chev. I will get to looking at that link as soon as I get to my desktop at home.

I appreciate it. :)
