Unidentified Network

I can't get the wired Ethernet Local Area Connection to connect.

I have been trying fixes for hours. Nothing seems to work.

I have just installed Win7 Professional. I have installed all Win7 updates except IE9.
I have updated all drivers with Lenovo system update.
I can connect wireless.
I can connect other PC's to my router.
My router (Sonicwall) company thinks it's a laptop issue.
The troubleshooter can't find the problem.
There are no red x's or yellow exclamation points in device manager.

Can someone please try to help?

I have not installed any firewall or antivirus. I have the win7 firewall turned off.
IE/Tools/Options/Connections/LAN Settings proxy server is blank and UNCHECKED.
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts has nothing active
When I ping 192.168.168.168 I get Destination host unreachable
When I ping 192.168.168.15 I get four replies
When I ping 127.0.0.1 I get four replies

Bypass your router, take it out of the equation.

Connect directly to your modem via e-cable. ensure you do NOT have static ips for ANY address, even dns/dhcp.

You may want to shut down your computer and power cycle your modem before connecting.

I have removed the IP addressing, I have shut down the computer and the modem.
I have turned on the modem and let it connect back up. After that I have turned on the computer. I still have Unidentified network.

If you were plugged into the modem on that ipconfig, your modem is not proving an IP address (unless you manually removed the gateway)

Yes I did.

I don't think the Ethernet is working even though the drivers are installed correctly.

is this an onboard ethernet adapter? When you have a cable plugged into it, can you see a light on the adapter?

Yes. It's a laptop. Lenovo T510
There is a blinking orange light b4 I plug in the cable.
After I plug in the cable there is no light.

I have tried a different cable. Same results.
I have tried plugging the same cable into a different laptop. It works fine.

Hello,

See if resetting the TCP/IP and Winsock helps.
Click on Start=> All Programs => Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log press enter
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log press enter
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog press enter

Restart the computer after and test your connection after.
Please let us know.

That blinking orange light is concerning.

If, however, the card does not have any lights or has orange or red lights, it is possible that either the card is bad, the card is not connected properly, or that the card is not receiving a signal from the network.

I had Lenovo replace the Ethernet card with a new one. The Ethernet works now but I can no longer boot into AHCI. It will only boot into compatibility mode now. I have tried doing system repair 4 times. I ran chkdsk /r /f. I can't get it to boot into the SATA drives with AHCI. If I reload the entire OS I'd like to wipe it clean with some program that will check and relocate bad sectors. Does anyone know if KillDisk will relocate bad sectors?
