unknown device help

i installed the latest windows 7 demo and everything seems too work good after i installed all my drivers.my laptop is a compaq presario f500.i just have one thing in my device manager that says "unknown device"i clicked on properties and it says"microsoft acpi-compliant system" i updated the bios but that doesnt seem too do it.there is a reference too setupapi.dll in the properties also.is there anyway to fix this,or should i disable it?thanks

At a guess, you may need to install the nVidia chipset drivers for your notebook.

HP/Compaq has no Win7 drivers for it, but the Vista drivers may work:

Select software and drivers 

Do you get (from the Win7 install, or Windows Update) good drivers for the notebook's graphics, sound, etc.? It'd be nice if the Windows 7 installer included every conceivable driver, but it may not.

In Device Manager, right click on the device and select Properties, then the Details tab, then look at the hardware ID.

For PCI devices you'll need the 4 characters after the VEN_ and the 4 characters after the DEV_
For USB devices you'll need the 4 characters after the VID_ and the 4 characters after the PID_
For all other devices you'll need the entire string of characters there.

For PCI devices, research those numbers at: http://www.pcidatabase.com
For USB devices, research those numbers at: http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids

This will tell you what the device is.
First, visit the device manufacturer's website to see if they've got more current drivers available.

If not, then use Google with that device name and terms like "Windows 7 driver" and/or "Windows Vista driver". Rooting through the search results will often yield something usable - but it's all trial and error.

Here's a small tool that may help you find the problem quicker and easier.

The tool will check for any Devices that have a red or yellow warning in their Device Manager, and report what the problem appears to be. The "Problematic Devices" section may contain items such as:

The first command-line option (1) will just produce this list of problems.
The second option (2) will enumerate all the devices present on the system (as well as checking for problems

[*] indicates a hidden device, and a [!] indicates a problem (which will be listed in the "Problematic Devices" section).

The third option (3) will also show devices that are either not present or not loaded, preceding them with a [-]. You can also invoke this option with a /showall switch, for example, typing this from a CMD window:
DevDiag /showall


Download DevDiag, and save it to your Desktop:

• If you are using Vista or Windows 7, please right-click DevDiag.exe and select Run As Administrator. Otherwise, simply double-click the program to run it.

sorry i didn't reply quicker,i was at work.i installed all the standard vista drivers for my windows 7 installation,from the hp website.after i installed the chipset drivers,i pointed the unknown device too that folder and told it too search for a new driver in there.i just couldnt get it too install correctly.iam gonna try those things on the other 2 posts too see if it will work.

it didnt show any errors when i ran step 2.iam not sure why it didnt show up for,cause its still in device manager.ill try the other thing and see what happens.

update 2: the hardware ids say:

ACPI\HPQ0006
*HPQ0006

update 3: it was saying on another page that the hardware id "*HPQ0006" had something too do with either TPI drivers or quick launch buttons drivers.i'am still trying too figure out what else i can install that will fix it.
