I realize that this is a very vague issue, but I just built my desktop and don't know where to start with this issue. With my laptop, the fix for this issue was to download RICOH Media Driver and the unknown device would go away. However, when I searched for the driver to install it on my desktop, it says that the driver is for laptops only (or so I think that's what I read). I need pointed in the right direction before I start troubleshooting a bunch of different things.

I don't know what the driver is though. I can say that when I unplug the SD card reader, the issue goes away. So maybe there is a bad connection in the device? It's weird because when I plug in my flash drive to the port, it gets power but the computer doesn't read it.

Look in device manager, right click on the unknown device, select properties from the list, on the Details tap, select hardware ID's from the drop down box, copy the numbers listed.

I tried plugging a USB into the port but it wasn't read by the computer. My keyboard and mouse are plugged into the back but they are working fine.

Just realized you said this. Would seem to say the unknown device is actually the SD card reader, do you know the manufacturer and make of it? A Guy

I do not know the manufacturer, but I used Driver Solution 11.8 to see if it could install the missing driver. It sent me to a Google search for an Intel driver, so I'm assuming Intel if the program is accurate. I was just afraid to install it for fear of it corrupting the system.

Probably not those programs use the Hardware Id numbers that are non-existent for that device.

It there a label on the bottom of the card reader or any printing on it?

Do you have a PC it does work in?
If so plug it into that PC and get the Hardware ID's from the Device manager of that PC.

What is confusing me is that you said in your first post that you built this desktop.
But you don't know the brand and model number of the card reader you installed in the box?

This is a case where it would help greatly if you filled in your System Specs and gave a more detailed description of the problem - like posting some screenshots of the Device Manager and whatever information there is on the mystery device.

We are only assuming it is the card reader because you said so.

I guess that doesn't make sense. Let me clarify: my friend built a desktop for me. The card reader was already in the shell when he gave it to me, but he doesn't remember the manufacturer or the model either.
