Solved Update errors Code 64C, 8004FF84 & 66A.

Hello Gabby,

Do you have any network drives installed? That's a strange error to kick up.

You're most welcome for the help :)

Oh. Is it the same as Media Devices? Cause when I click the Network Tab on the navigation pane, it shows the following: Computer, Media Devices, and Network Infrastructure.

If they're the same then yes, I have them on my computer. Our house has wifi and there are 3 laptops connected to it. The media devices listed are the user accounts of each laptop.

Well, nevertheless it's a strange error message to get when attempting to uninstall Silverlight. Makes it sound like you're trying to use the uninstaller on another machine via your machine:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

Similar to the message you might get when you're using your machine to open a file located on another machine that just so happens to be turned off:

"The file you are trying to open is on a network resource that is unavailable."

How about going about it the other way around. Uninstall then reinstall MSE. Don't bother repairing; the past month or so I've seen a number of reports from users with MSE update issues, where uninstalling/reinstalling fixed their problem.

With a successfull uninstall of MSE, and before reinstalling it, you might consider messing with Silverlight. If you can't get Silverlight's update to install try the repair or uninstall/reinstall of the app itself.

If you don't know what they are, then the chances are that you don't have one :p You can connect storage devices directly to your computer, where you are the only one with access to them, or you can connect them to your router where they can be accessed by anyone on the network. They are commonly used by people for backing up multiple computers with ease :) Although media devices are similar in sense (Windows Media Player shares your media files over the network so your other computers can access your library), it won't be anything to do with your problem.

F5ing has posted a great suggestion, so I advise you follow that :)

I can't uninstall MSE, same message is appearing. :/ This is getting annoying. :)) Can I just hide the two updates instead, just to put an end to this? Is that going to affect my system's performance in anyway?

I would not hide them. Something's wrong, and it really should be resolved.

Did you try using Safe Mode, as recommended by koolkat77, to do the job?

Did that prior run of sfc /scannow find/repair any errors? If so, did you run it multiple times until getting the message something like "no integrity issues found"?

To ensure complete removal of Bit Defender did you run this tool?

Just a tip (something I learnt recently):

It's much better to run the command once, reboot, run it again, then upload the CBS.log rather than run it three times straight :) If sfc.exe can't access a file then it will schedule the replacement to happen on the next reboot, the last scan is to check the files have been replaced and to append the latest log to the end of the CBS log, which we can then take a look at. You could do it three times if you wanted, but it's extremely unlikely that you'll have any files leftover that couldn't be replaced over reboot (or have been corrupted after the reboot).

Thanks for the tip! ;)

I think the reference to the use of the cbs logfile is in that sfc tutorial, so hopefully the OP followed it all the way through.

Yes, it found and repaired errors. After I rebooted, I did the scan again and I got the message: Windows Resource did not find any integrity violations. I ran the scan again today and the same message was displayed.

Yes, i rad the Bitdefender removal tool. :)

I can't uninstall. :\

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

BTW, thanks for all the effort you guys have given so far. I appreciate it. :)

After all this you're continuing to get the above message after every uninstall attempt?

You're not by any chance booting your machine from a network resource, are you? I realize you were a little confused when Tom asked about network devices, so I would guess you're probably booting normally. But the messages you're getting are certainly unusual.

Can you try shutting down your network (modem/router/access point, all of it), reboot your machine and then try uninstalling?

The above suggestion is a shot in the dark, but I thought it may be worth a shot based on that message you're getting.

Then take a look at this (if you haven't already tried): Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled

Hey, so Silverlight's all fixed. I was able to uninstall/reinstall successfully and the update is now installed.

So it's MSE I'm still having trouble with. I was able to uninstall it using the Fix It program but when I try to reinstall, I get that same annoying message saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

I used the FixIt program.

Will anything go wrong with my laptop if i change something in the regisrty? Anyway, I can always do a system restore. I will give it a try and post the results.

* It got fixed! Thank you so much for all your help! :D I really appreciate it.

Oh, okay. I thought the Fixit may have only allowed you to uninstall MSE. Just making sure I understood.
