Update failure KB2987107 and IE 11 Win 7 x64

Both updates for Win 7 x64 go part way, and then stall.
The "Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based systems" update returns a "9C59" error code and sometimes "8024000E" after it stalls for a while.
The "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2987107)" moves the green install bar 99% of the way to the finish line, and then stalls. Still hung after an hour.

Microsoft "Fix It" makes no difference.
Created Windows repair disk. ran sfc /scannow - no help.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
Hotfix KB947821 downloaded, but won't install.

Any ideas?

Willy

Noel,

I was not able to find the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file
Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

I did find some other logs which may be helpful, and attached them.

I assume you do not want the .cab files uploaded that are in the cbs folder.
Or do you?

Any help is appreciated.

Bill

Found some more error information in the Event Viewer.
Looks like Microsoft Security Essentials is having a similar problem.

I think I'd better see the whole logs...

Open Event Viewer

click on theWindows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.

Now click on theApplication entry - wait while it loads.

Click on 'File'in the menu bar and select Save...

Save the file asAppevt.evtx

Repeat for theSystem log

then zip both,and upload them.

I don't know how relevant this is - but you appear to be having lots of crashes in IE, caused by the NVidia driver.

I would suggest that you should look at updating that driver as a high priority.

This is the only WU-related error that gives us any extra data....

That looks normal enough - so it's not a problem with permissions on the file itself.
Please try running another SFC /SCANNOW - and post the whole of the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder (post the CBSPersist files separately if you need to get under the 8MB file limit)

Got invalid file types, chaged suffix and zipped.
.mum is .mummy.zip (file 2) and .cat is .catty.zip
Hope this works...

There is also the same .cat and .mum files in C:\windows\servicing\Packages\,
but with sp1 in the name.

First time I've used an AsRock MOBO, and first time for an SSD as the C: drive.
(My specs page has been updated.)
I'm wondering if that might have contributed to all the errors....

They both look fine - apart from the names! ;)- I assume that you only renamed the copies?
The errors I was expecting to see there aren't present - so I assume that they must be in the registry.

I need to have alook at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy theC:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop andthen compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site(preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

I haven't forgotten you - just overloaded at present.
I will come back as soon as I can clear the decks a little!

No problem there, either :(

Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place - Please open an Elevated COmmand prompt and run the following commands...

Code:
MD "%userprofile%\desktop\packs"
COPY C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-ParentalControls-Package*.* "%userprofile%\desktop\packs"

This will create a folder on your desktop - 'packs' - please compress it and upload it to your reply.
