Update is taking hours to install

Running Home Premium x64. There were 6 updates that needed to be installed. When I shut down the computer they began to install. It's now been at least 3 hours and it's only on 3 of 6. It says do not power off or restart your computer during the installation. Should i just wait or should I restart the computer? Will it screw anything up if I restart the computer? Also, does anyone know what these updates were for?

I wouldn't have installed them if I didn't know what they were for. :shock:

Updates sometimes can take a long time.
Leave it go for a bit longer.
BTW Have you a current System Restore Point & a Win 7 dvd?


Sometimes in order to get updates to install properly, you may need to do them manually.

*Visit Microsoft's Download Center:
Microsoft Download Center.
*Search for each update code which starts with the letters "KB" and followed by a set of numbers.
*Click the link for the download and then click Download and Run. You'll need to accept the agreement and then click Continue.
* Repeat this process for each download that Windows Updates was unable to install.
* Run Microsoft update again, click Check for updates. Hopefully it will show that you are completely patched.


Re update settings -
*I suggest you change them to notify you but let you choose when to download.
*Do a few at a time only.

Always make sure you have a current system restore point prior to downloading anything.
