update your bios

Maybe y'all shouldn't be talking someone into something he's not sure how to do, especially since it could disable his machine if it gets done wrong.

some on this forum recommend this because i have problems with my WMA12 and updating your bios is meant to improve you performance

I'd say so, but it's ultimately up to you, and if you don't feel confident doing it, then don't, but if you do, make sure to back up the original first.
It's up to them what they do.

Have you tried re-installing windows? Why don't you use an alternative to WMP, there are so many that are good and free programs such as VLC Player, iTunes etc. What you are doing is not necessary as your problem is not serious.

I've never heard of a BIOS update making much difference to a specific peice of software. So unless there is a specific incompatability ( improbable) DON'T DO IT!
I would also never flash the bios if there was anything less than a perfect route. You know the steps, you have the absolute right file and the OS is working perfectly for it.
Too much risk, too little gain.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
This update is just allowing for newer CPUs. It wont really change anything.

Bottom line: Bios update has absolutely nothing to do with WMP.
Not much of a point in doing it, as hes not upgrading his CPU, and it will not solve the problem hes having.

I want to point out that it is highly unlikely that flashing the bios will speed up Windows Player 12. Upgrading chipsets and drivers may help. The bios upgrades are very specific. They correct the problems listed and nothing else.

I have flashed a bios once with no problem to correct a problem I was having with XP. The version I flashed listed and corrected that specific problem. Especially concerning the bios, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I know there are problems with some BIOS and SOME media players. If you DO decide to update, do your homework first. If it helps, I have a video on updating a Gigabyte BIOS. Yours MAY be different, but DO NOT update from within Windows. It has a much higher failure rate than from flash memory or CD. If you are going to do it, use flash memory if you can. It's the most reliable method with every board that uses it.

Here is that link to that video if you care to watch

Usually the manufacturer provides a way to flash the BIOS from within Windows. Make sure no other programs are running, and run the .exe file. Do not disrupt the process.

If you are not confident enough, don't mess with the bios. You should listen to the majority of the power users around here...it doesn't worth it, at least for "fixing" WMP. Did you tried with some of the suggestions that I provided? Someone recommended and using different media player...Or, if you are determined to flush your bios, find someone experienced to do it for you. That would be my recommendation for you.
cheers

I agree with Grimmjow a bad experience you are having with WMP does not really constitute such a drastic thing as flash your bios, it is a significant task which CAN! render your system entirely useless. So why not give another player a go first my recommendations are...

Foobar2000 audio player
K lite codec pack which comes with Media Player Classic

Hope you sort your problem out soon.
