Hi all,

Working on netbook with windows 7 starter.
Noticed updates not installing awhile ago and decided to fix. I have already done the thorough virus scan recommended in a few posts and have tried a few other fixes as well but got nowhere. I figured I'd post so I read through the posting instructions and am stuck at the SFC Scan.

Another servicing or repair operation is currently running.

I do have the Windows Installer Modual service set to manual,

Where to start?

Thanks for your reply!

KB947821 and KB2902885 installed successfully and then all the other updates failed.

I get error codes:
80071A91- clock keeps resetting to 2009 at reboot. I reset to current and try again.

80070643- is the next code which references to .net. I went through a few troubleshooting steps for that and it leads me to something else , etc.
I think I'm going in circles.

You could replace the motherboard battery. If that battery is bad the bios will not remember the date.
Is this a single O/S boot or dual boot?
If the time is not correct Windows will not update.

it does have a stripped out start up OS from HP, so technically it's dual boot.

I tried option 3 and ran updates again and it failed. Same codes.

Not the recovery partition. What operating system/systems do you have installed?
If just one then try the motherboard battery.

I wasn't referring to the recovery partition on the HDD. HP has a stripped OS that starts up before windows. I think it was based on the same thing as their web OS. It's just for viewing pics and listing to music although it does have a browser.

The main OS is Windows 7 Starter edition

Well I'm not familiar with this HP thing. If it's a operating system it could have it's time incorrect. I don't believe HP has a operation system of any kind. I would still change the cmos battery. They are cheep and it can't hurt anything doing so. You will have to reset bios time when replacing the battery. The time must be correct in Windows for updates. I know of no way around that fact. Their is a possibility that another program is changing the time. Using my memory their is a virus that also changes the time.
Their will be somebody familiar with HP that might be able to help you.

Changing BIOS/CMOS batteries in laptops can be a major engineering challenge - with 20+ screws and lots of patience required.
If you're not prepared for it, take it to a techie for the job.
