Updating Display Adapters

What OS are you running on that laptop? Windows has some built in tools for checking the hard drive for errors.

Look on the bottom of the laptop for a small panel with HD or hard drive marked on it. If there is an access panel usually all you do is remove the screw(s) to open it and gain access. Then have alook inside to see how the hard drive comes out. To be safe have a look online for a service manual for your model and go from there.

3 years old, I'm guessing its no longer under warrenty? Ok so it failed the Toshiba test but passed the Seagate test? If you use this laptop a lot and for buisness use I would replace the drive and run the diagnostics again. If it fails again then there is a fault on the laptop, if it passes then it was a failing hard drive. Otherwise backup your data and just keep using it to see if it gets worse.

I would think you should see something other than a blank screen when you run chkdsk. I haven't run it in ages though. Is the hard drive light flickering?

The hard drive light is blinking. I will check back on it later and see if it looks like it ran. I have a 3 year warranty so I could get it replaced. It's just I start school Monday and I need my laptop for school and if I sent it in, it would be weeks before I got it back. That is why I wanted to make sure it was failing before I sent it in.

I frequent a lot of forums so I just lost track of where I was and asked a standard question. Anyway if you right click that drive and go to properties you should see a tab maked disk tools. You can do an error check there if you wish and see what windows says about the status of that drive.

That is what I did. That is the chkdsk (or at least what I thought it was). That is what I clicked to schedule at boot and when I rebooted the screen was black. It now works again and nothing popped up. Not sure if that worked or not.

OK, I wasn't sure if you tried to do it from the command line or not. I just did one on my disk and didn't have to reboot? I only have the one system disk. I unchecked the automatically fix errors box though, I usually like to see if there are problems before I let it do anything.

Okay, I ran a Dskchk and nothing was found. I ran a Long test on Seatools and nothing was found. I'm hoping the Diagnostic Test is wrong.

Okay, I've downloaded the driver from Frostmourne's link

The link that I downloaded is (Offizieller Catalyst 9.3.1 Legacy (Treiber & CCC) Radeon 9500 - Radeon X1950 XTX (Windows 7 & Vista; 32 & 64 Bit) [89,8 MB] )

The file says the name of it is (9-3_1_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc). Would this mean that it is only for Vista or is that just a name they gave the file?

I tried updating the driver by device manager>Update Driver Software...>Browse My Computer for Driver Software>Let Me Pick from a list of device drivers on my computer>Hard Disk...>Browse. I saved my driver onto my desktop, but when I browse for the driver, it isn't shown on the desktop. So, I have 2 questions....is this the right driver to install and why is it not showing up when I browse for it?

I just looked on the drivers support site for your make & model & I don't see any graphics drivers updates at all. :sarc:
Toshiba Satellite A215-S4757 drivers

When you go to ATI it just redirects you to the manufacturer's website...so... I don't think there's any specific graphics drivers made for this & Windows 7.

Okay, this is weird but I actually found one. I had the page bookmarked and it wouldn't work through that(everytime I hit display to show those drivers, nothing would happen). Once I found the page on google again and looked up display I found this.... Model Content Page

Okay, well that was the same version as the one I already have installed. It's weird though because mine says its Driver Date is 1/9/2008 and the one on toshiba's site says it was added 6/30/2009. I don't get it. Oh well, I don't have any trouble with my computer. I just wanted to update it so it would be up to date.

You might want to try this program out fixes driver issues from 9.2 and up the Radeon xpress 1200 series card is second from the bottom on the right. download the catalyst 9.2 or up amd follow the instructions on modifying the.inf File and you should have a working driver when through ATI MobilityModder - HardwareHeaven.com

It doesn't have X1200 series. Just 1200 series. I believe they are different since the X1200 isn't listed with the other X series.

Oh, well thanks for looking that up for me. I appreciate it. But I think I will just stick with what I have. Nothing is wrong so until something goes wrong will I start searching. Thanks for all your help guys.
