after making a fresh install of windows seven, I found the necessary audio and video drivers. The video driver is fine but this audio driver gives me the following error..'a service installation section in this INF file is invalid.'

Why is this happening and how can I get my sound?
here's my set up: Gateway Support Site Map
sound card:
Creative PCI Sound card

NOTE: this is a pretty old computer; so i m guessing it was designed to work with xp

Hi and welcome

Was the creative driver a win 7 driver or vista (or earlier)? if vista or earlier it needs to be installed in compatibility mode. to do that right click on the installer>properties>compatibility> check the correct box

deutschluz, neither of those Gateway links work anymore, guessing because you used your serial number/service tag to look them up. Anyway there is enough in one of them to see that the computer is the E6100 series and using that found that it came with one of two different Creative cards (based on XP drivers here, Gateway Support Drivers & Downloads ),

1. Audigy 2

2. Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128

If your card is the first one #2 here,

http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/21804-creative-sound-cards.html

should get it up and running. If it is the second one, start looking a new sound card as that one does not and will not have any Windows 7 support (it is just too old).
