Yesterday I found 'Trusted Installer' using a big chunk of my processor, despite my having the Update option set to 'inform and let me decide'.
I was looking at my update settings and down at the bottom of the page I saw (never noticed it before so I don't know how long its been around) a note that said: "Windows Update might update itself automatically first when checking for other updates."
Now my inclination is to turn off the Updates altogether; I don't like unsolicited interference - especially from MS; although I don't know if even that will stop it.
I'm running MBAM top software and Hitman Pro Alert.
Any comments anyone?

If I hadn't seen the processor being used, I would not have known Trusted Installer was active; I would not have been given the opportunity to check for miss-spelled words and/or etc; this online activity was going on in the background. What else is going on in the background?
Because MS has the ability to talk to my computer without my compliance, my inclination is to do whatever I can to prevent it.
Just because I'm paranoid... etc, etc! What can I do to prevent it?

I think it is trying to manage the huge mess of Windows side by side (winsxs) configuration... This has been an annoyance of mine ever since Vista and one reason I still use XP primarily.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
