Hi

Yesterday i upgraded my OS, Windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 64bit and now i get lagspikes and high cpu usage when i play games and my computer is getting really hot.
I did not clean install before the upgrade.

I think the cpu is causing the heat of the computer but it could be my new graphic card i bought. I upgraded my graphics from NVIDIA GeForce 240 to Asus GeForce 560TI.
When my computer gets warmer when i play games like Battlefield 3 i notice the cpu usage is high and i get many lag spikes and when i dont play the computer is getting back the original temperature.
I have searched about this problem everywhere but somehow their problem doesnt fit mine. If you could help me with this problem i would be glad.

If this is posted in the wrong place, i am sorry just notify where to move it to.
Thank you in advance.

My System Specs:
Ram: 4 GB
Graphics: Asus GeForce 560Ti
Proccesor: Dual Core Amd Athlon II X2 250 Proccesor 3,00 GHz
Audio: Realtek high definition audio

You can use Speccy, it will tell you the cpu mobo and hdd temps.

Run your system with as less load as possible.

I downloaded Speccy and it showed me the temps in the diffrent components.
Right now my my graphic card is 36 °C and my Cpu is at 26 °C
What i noticed is that the graphic card temperature is increasing.
What should the normal temperature be?

how do i run my system with a less load as possible?

Oh then that is ok. Every value under 45°C is considered as cool :)
So, forget what i said about the amount of load things...
How much is the gpu temp increasing?

So now i have played Battlefield 3 and my CPU is 44 °C and my Graphics card is 85 °C
Now that i closed the game the temperature is getting lower.

That 85°C is really frustrating...

What case do you have? Are you overclocking the card? Also it would be great to make sure that the fan of the gpu is spinning, only open the case if you know what you are doing.

edit: gpu temp would ideally be in between 28°C and 71°C

How many watt is your psu?

You can only get to know this by openning the case. Be careful, and don't touch any components if possible :D
You will see many numbers on the side of the psu, look for the one that is said to be the maximum output.

Yesterday i upgraded my OS, Windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 64bit and now i get lagspikes and high cpu usage when i play games and my computer is getting really hot.

I did not clean install before the upgrade.

Curious how you did this as Window 7 won't let you "upgrade" from XP......
To upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7, you'll need to select the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. A custom installation doesn't preserve your programs, files, or settings. It's sometimes called a "clean" installation for that reason.

Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 - Help & How-to - Microsoft Windows

So just how did you install Windows 7?

So now i have played Battlefield 3 and my CPU is 44 °C and my Graphics card is 85 °C
Now that i closed the game the temperature is getting lower.

Your CPU temps are good. Though your GPU temps may seem high most of today's GPU's typically run in the 80's-90's during gaming sessions. My ATI 6950 runs about the same temps your card when under heavy gaming usage.

Also there are a variety of factors that can affect temps such as case space, design, room temps, cooling, airflow, GPU/CPU usage, etc.....

Here's and interesting article on graphics cards and thermal characteristics showing your card.

Thats how i upgraded my Windows Xp 32bit to Windows 7 64bit.
All my old things like programs, documents and so forth were collected and a map called Windows.old

I hope you understood me, english isn't my best subject

I don't think you are overheating, but I'm fairly sure that you need a 500W psu to move that system. If you later want to upgrade to to a high end cpu for that powerful card, you might wan to look for something like 600 or 700 w psu.
Some would say that the more the better, I would go for a 600W psu which has to be branded somewhat... Like there are those cheaper ones which tend have a white box or cheap design, but you don't need to buy the most expensive one. For example a coolink that i have is between the two categories. ;)

I would also suggest improving the airflow within your PC case, by adding an exhaust fan or two. Maybe even a good aftermarket HSF for your GPU and CPU.

And as suggested above, please consider a good quality PSU with a higher wattage, preferably one with a single +12v rail.

Your system's power consumption + a 30% headroom = PSU Wattage you need to consider

BTW, have you been able to use the Windows Task Manager to see what's pushing your CPU consumption to max?

There should be a column for the percent of cpu usage

Many is normal.

Look down the CPU column in that tab. What processes have the highest value? Most will be at 0. Similarly, look down the memory column and identify the largest values.

The highest cpu has a thing called "System Idle Process" it takes 91-95 cpu and the second is little random and with that i mean it is sometimes chrome sometimes task manager and so forth and it uses 2-3 cpu

I went to the shop where i bought my new grapics card and they said like you guys did, that the temperature i have is normal and it shouldn't be my PSU that is causing the overheating.

That's all normal.

"System Idle Process" is a measure of how much of your CPU is NOT working---e.g. is at idle. A higher number means the CPU is working LESS, which is good.
