Upgrade question - 2nd hand copy

My friend bought windows 7 upgrade from vista.

She installed it on her computer. I don't know if she was connected to the internet at any point while win 7 was installed.

Shortly after he computer blew up and she bought a new one with win 7 already on it.

I now have her copy of win 7 upgrade and will it work on my pc?

I have vista.

yeah at most it will take a call to MS to explain what happened and they will activate if you can't

It depends if it is a OEM or retail upgrade copy of Windows 7.

If it's a retail copy, then yes you can install and activate it on your computer.

If it's a OEM copy and had been activated on her computer, then the key number is permanently tied to that computer. You can try to do a phone activation, but you might not be able to activate it on your computer with the same key number. It would be worth a try to see though.
