upgrade to win 7 ultimate from win pro test

hi, I have had a pc built with win 7 pro as a test software installed I thought it was the full working edition so I have uploaded all of my software etc, I have got a win 7 ultimate genuine disk to re install how can I save or transfer my current software etc as some of them were via an email download and I have deleted them!

hi thanks, what i have dne now is used the win 7 ultimate disk but didnt relise it was a 32bit not 64, it has ran ok i have a 64bit coming at weend will it be ok to run 32?

The same Product code is good for 32 bit or 64 bit. If you enter it though anytime upgrade it will just upgrade what you have now. If your Pro is 32 bit your Ultimate will be 32 bit. If it's 64 bit your Ultimate will be 64 bit. If the key doesn't work it won't be because it came with a 32 bit DVD. I do believe if you buy the full retail box of Windows 7 you get both DVD's. My OEM Windows 7 only had the one 64 bit DVD as I ordered the 64 bit version. My TechNet/MSDN keys are good for 32 bit and 64 bit, it's my choice which version I install.

If your current install is 32 bit and you want to go to 64 bit, you will have to reinstall. You can't upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit.

If you've been running 32 bit OS with 16gb RAM then 12.5gb RAM have been unused and wasted due to 32 bit limitations.

Use the 64 bit installer for your licensed version from Reinstall tutorial under picture below. Follow those steps to get and keep a perfect install

Why did you order a new OS? You can reinstall with the same license any bit version from reinstall tutorial below. hi it is a 32bit dvd only will it still have 64bit as an advanced option when re installing?

No I just finished explaining that you would use the 64 bit installer for your version provided in Clean Reinstall tutorial below, with the same Product Key used for 32 bit.

The OP doesn't have a 64 bit DVD to do a 64 bit install. That's the way I read it anyway. He will now though. And an extra Windows 7 product code.

The only thing I can think of is nikonfruit wants a store bought DVD Windows 7 Pro 64 over a ISO download.

Why one would want to buy another key with the store bought Windows 7 Pro 64 DVD is be on me.

Not to be picky but that's the first time you've posted that link in this thread? For me it is anyway, I have signatures turned off, if that's where it is. I see references to it but no actual posted link in your posts? That may be why I'm missing it.

Ok, it did occur to me (eventually) that that might be the case. At first glance, it just looked like he forgot to post the link. My bad. If he had said "in my sig" I would have clued in right away. I find things too cluttered with signatures turned on. For me it gets old looking at the same picture over and over again. It's nice an clean with them removed. Just a heads up, I'm likely not the only one that disables them.

hi, I have tried to install the win 7 ultimate 32bit disk and tried to do a 64bit install but there is no way of doing it? I am missing something, anyway I have now got win 7 pro with 64bit disk but I cant boot it up either using dvd as boot up or open the disk and run it says cant upgrade, I don't mind which disk I use I just want to get it sorted so I can start using my new system
so I have looked at the tutorial but didn't find the info can someone point me to it?

You can't install 64 bit Windows with 32 bit CD/DVD. You also can't do an upgrade install from 32 bit to 64 bit. To switch from 32 bit to 64 bit you have to clean install with 64 bit install media. Is your 7 Pro 64 bit DVD pre made or did you make it from a download? If it's pre made it should be bootable? Where did you order it from? Did you "press any key" when prompted to, to boot from the DVD?

hi yes it is pre made I bought from amazon uk it is a 64bit dvd with key number when I boot from dvd it says I cant upgrade from the disk can I get around it?
