Upgrading to Windows 10

I am going to upgrade my OS to windows 10 but I am going to do a clean install. My problem is I am not sure how to accomplish this without losing the data on my hardware raid "dedicated raid controller" and I also have another raid setup on my mother board. The OS is on a separate hard drive. I really have too much data on the RAID arrays to back up in a reasonable manner. The RAID controller has a battery back up but I am not sure about the RAID setup on on the mother board. Is this as simple as installing a new OS on the hard drive with my old OS and the new OS will recognize the RAID arrays that already exist?

If you are going to use the free Win 10, from what I've read you must first "upgrade" and then you can do a clean install.

Do not trust all your data to RAID. I had a RAID setup and one of the drives developed an error and data was lost. I no longer use RAID but instead do regular full hard drive backups with Macrium Reflect cycled between two different hard drives. I have a "data" drive for my recording studio projects and it too gets regular backups to two different hard drives.

RAID used to be the "way to go" before less expensive and higher capacity hard drives (and SSD's) were introduced.

No need to install 7 again Microsoft changed that, look at this tutorial Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums just under step 7 talks about it.

If you wanna go to 10, build a totally new PC.
