Usable Ram

Hi please help, I have just installed an additional 1 GB ram to my 2GB on an hp 635, problem is that it has put all the 1GB to system reserved memoty and only 1.60 is usable, hoe do I fix this, im using windows 7 home basic on an hp 635

Could you please provide more information about your system?

Is it a laptop or desktop?
From your system specs it shows you are running 64bit. go to Start -> Right Click on Computer -> Properties. Under System type it will tell you if 64 bit.

From your system specs it shows you are running 64bit. go to Start -> Right Click on Computer -> Properties. Under System type it will tell you if 64 bit.

This could also be set in your systems BIOS settings. OR there is only so much the motherboard can handle.

Your Radeon IGP is probably reserving that ~512mb for itself as VRAM. You can set it lower in the BIOS, probably down to 256 or 128.

Even though it is a 512mb for the VRAM, it shouldn't be taking a full GB away from usable RAM.

Ahhhh I read "2Gb" from the first post and didn't see the "added 1Gb", woops. But my point still stands. Before you installed the 1Gb stick, how much RAM did you have available back then?

Obviously the slots are fine otherwise it would only register 1GB ram stick.
