To all the computer geniuses out there, I guess this isn't a windows 7 problem but it's about drivers.
I have an Asus K53E-B1 with Win7 64bit. It comes with 3 USB 2.0 ports and that's it. I went on the Asus website today and found USB 3.0 drivers update... I can't just download those drivers and use them and expect USB 3.0 performance when I have USB 2.0 ports right?....

I think you still need a Usb 3.0 Hub to speed-up the ports.

Western Digital & Iomega does provide usb 3.0 drivers on their proper site for their hard drives, and surely the hub manufacturer.

Those you was looking at Asus are for already built-in usb 3.0 made laptop drivers, to update.

No, the USB 3 drivers will not make your USB 2 hardware run at USB 3 speeds. The drivers likely won't install at all, as there is no matching hardware.

ASUS delivers the same model with different specifications, and it means the model in your case K53E series can have USB 3.0 but not all the submodels like yours K53E-B1.
I own an ASUS laptop and I know that the drivers that you find on their support site for your particular model also includes for other submodels that might have USB 3.0. For the model I own they have also added a USB 3.0 driver but my laptop doesn't have a USB 3.

The USB 2 works fine for me and I can't complain about the transfer speed at all.

You can read about your models different specifications here:

I know this is a day(s) late. Anyway.....

No, the USB 3 drivers will not make your USB 2 hardware run at USB 3 speeds. The drivers likely won't install at all, as there is no matching hardware.

Not to mention the physical differences in cables....

USB 3.0 adds five new lines (the cable is noticeably thicker), but the new contacts sit parallel to the old ones on a different plane, as opposed to being adjacent to them. This means you’ll be able to differentiate between 2.0 and 3.0 cables just by looking at the ends.
