i have a 15m usb extension cable and i need to run more than one device from it.

At the moment i can only run one thing, a mouse.

I also have a usb hub, from tescos and i was going to use it to connect multiple devices to the one usb cable/port.

I tried doing this but it although the light on the port came on none of the devices plugged in worked or showed and lights or signs at at all?? but the hub works fine when plugged into the computer with no extension.

i tried plugging in a keyboard in individually too, instead of the the mouse and it didn't work, so at the moment i can only run a mouse from that port??

I think it maybe to do with the lack of power from the one port but i am not sure. On the 4 port hub i have it does have a 5v power socket too(to allow more powerful device to run off it) but i don't have a power cable for it.

Will getting the power cable help me?

Anyone else had this problem?

15m are you sure? (may be 1.5m)

Is the cable USB 1 or USB 2?

the voltage drop on a 15m cable ,running at 5v will be approx 1.1 volt why is it required to be so long ? do you not have an alternative option ?

charlie3, a mouse only requires about 5ma to run, most usb ports run at 500ma ,the longer the cable length the more ma you loose try powering the hub and see if that helps post back and let us know how you get on :)

so this boosts the power without an extra power cable?

im guessing my mouse works as its so low power, yes?

so if i got this i could run a usb hub from the one port and connect a mouse and a keyboard to it?

this would replace one of my existing 5m cables or do i need 3?

is the power cable for the hub still an option?

Active USB Extension Cable?

An Active USB Extension Cable is different to Passive USB Extension Cable in that with active USB extension cable the signal passing through the lead is amplified by the cable's built in repeater. This cable buffers the data passing through it (both upstream and downstream). This buffering ensures signal quality.

How Does It Work?

The 5m Active USB 2.0 Extension Lead can be cascaded so that it can bridge much longer gaps. Alternatively you can add more of the Newlink Active 5m USB 2.0 Extension Leads to give an even longer length. You can daisy chain up to five of these leads giving you up to 25m (depending upon the USB 2.0 device connected).

Anything Else?

The 5m Active USB 2.0 Extension Lead does not need an additional power adapter (current draw is only 5mA). It is 100 percent compatible with USB 2.0 electrical and timing specifications.

well a 5v dc 1a power cable is 14.99 + postage so an active cable will be cheaper, i just want to make sure it will work with 2 other cables.
