usb extension cable or power issues?

Yes,three.

The maximum overall length of usb cable should not exceed 5 metres.

Watch out for cheap one's must are USB 1.

can i try powering the hub or is this my only option

I would definitly think it should be powered, do you have the AC cord?

Hi, I have a USB extension cable, and I use it to play my hard drive. During watching a movie, it stops, this only happens when it's connected to the cable, plugged directly into the TV, it plays perfectly, any thoughts on what the issue could be?
