Okay so my clean W7 x64 went off without a hitch... at least at first.
Now that I am reinstalling stuff - I have a Thermaltake Max-4 external drive enclosure and connected it to the USB. But to my surprise W7 did not check for drivers when I connected.
I shut off the power to the drive and turned it back on .. still nothing. I unplugged and replugged.. and still nothing...
So I take my USB stick and plug it in.. and BAM - sure enough - it searches for a driver, finds it and I can access the thumbdrive.
What am I missing?
