USB hub issue on boot with win 7 64

Odd but when I get the windows 7 icon screen and it transistions to the login screen I will always get a blue screen even though the window theme plays over my speakers. As well the 8 port usb hub may or may not activate. Odd part 2 when booting from win icon screen to login screen, once the usb hub lights up if I move the wireless mouse and left click this can bring the login screen to life about 30% of the time. If it goes to blue screen I will have to hard shut down and reboot again. If I am successful to boot to login screen about 40% of the time the powered usb 2.0 (8) port hub will be flashing on and off. This didn't happen with same hardware and XP pro 32. Any thoughts ?

Does your computer boot up properly if you disconnect your usb hub?

Ok, removed the usb cable to the hub and restarted. Booted to the win 7 icon screen and then blue screened with theme playing in background. Hard shut down and plugged usb hub back in and it took 2 try's to get past icon......again had to play the mouse wiggle mode at the exact time the usb hub lights up ! Wierd stuff maynard !

Originally the thought was bad memory on a BFG 9500 card. Ordered and replaced with the amazing GT260 card. Great card but it made squat of a difference on start up. System runs like a mad dog after the boot games, no issues other than the usb port flashing for minutes to hours later, sometimes to finally load and stop flashing.

What Boot order do you have your Bios setup configured to? Do you have a floppy drive installed ? If not make sure it is disabled in the Bios boot order. What is the make & model of the USB hub ? Does it have an external power supply ?
Do you have any yellow triangle errors in Device Manager ?

I'm wondering if maybe it's an audio problem, since you get the wierd activity right when the logo audio kicks in?

I will double check the boot order, but yes I do have a floppy for the rainy day blue moon thing. I think it is in the boot order? 8 port usb 2.0 hub by cables unlimited I believe and yes it has a wall wart! No yellow triangles in d. mgr.! Cheer's

Interesting thought on the audio! I'm not having any issue with audio to my knowledge. I'll check on boot drive sequence and also dbl. check on audio driver update....can't hurt!

Ok back again, on boot the floppy wasn't in the order at all. Checked again and the audio card is a Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, dbl. checked for driver update and it's current. Oh and this time on boot I moved the mouse at the point the light comes on the usb hub and viola 1st time! If only it could be everytime!

Is the mouse USB ? where is it plugged in to ?

Mouse and keyboard are bt logitech and the dongle is in the back of the computer not in the hub!

Could be a smart idea! I purchased a 90 day free with MS call center with OS, I'll call and disuss with them as well. They had me chasing the GPU and I get the feeling as soon as they learn it's a custom home build they want to just blame the hardware and or video card drivers. That's why I'm here and this seems like solid advice !

Did you install win7 yourself ? Was the hub connected during the install ?

Sounds like bluetooth & hub are competting with each other during boot up.

Yes I installed win 7 myself and the hub was attached. Interesting about the BT and hub. Do you think the repair install to be worth a try? Hav'nt had much issue with XP to ever need to do this. All that said I still freaking love this win 7 64 as it plays so well with my AMD quad core!

I am wondering if this might work before a repair install.

Uninstall USB hub in Device Manager.

Unplug USB Hub cable. Power OFF computer. wait a few minutes. Power ON computer. DO NOT connect USB hub yet.

Check for Windows Updates, to make sure you have most recent updates.

Power OFF computer.. wait a few minutes. Power ON computer... wait until everything has loaded. Now connect the USB Hub. See if it installs without any problems.

Now re-test your boot ups to see if the problem still occurs.

Hub is straped to the back of my desk and the name is to the wall but I believe it's a cables unlimited brand. It's always worked well. On the side facing me is model#29560 and sn:06ph-02795. I will uninstall it and re-boot then let the system find it again. This hub has 2 printers plugged into it along with other misc. items. This is so odd and I'm not sure this is related to the boot issue but all I can do is chip away at the puzzle.....thanks to all of the input and please offer any advice if you have experiences along mine!

Ok great news so far!!!! Hub WAS a Cables To Go brand usb 2.0 7 port hub. Note "WAS"! I plugged printers into back of computer, removed hub from system, rebooted with no issues!! Yeah! One last nagging problem is one of the usb devices isn't working (a single port usb extension to my desk) I will work thru this last nagging issue. Wow all I can say is thanks to all and hopefully this can help others. Have no explaination why but as they say "our's is not to question why, our's is to do and die" this cheerful quote is brought to you by one happy and still mystified thread starter !
