I have one Hiitachi Hard drive with data on it from my old computer.
I would like to transfer the data from this hard drive to my new computer.
For that I bought a USB IDE/SATA adapter from VZTEC, VZ-UA2259.

The old hard drive has two partitions. On the first Partition is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. The second partition contains no system, just data.

Problem: I connected the Adapter with the old hard drive, plugged it in and I saw the two partitions. I was able to download some data. Automatically a driver was installed for the new hardware.
I disconnected the old hard drive to continue the next day.
Next day, I connected the old hard drive to my new computer and the partitions were not shown. Instead I got a message asking me to format the two partitions.
I disconnected the drive and re-connected it...Same problem.

I went to my second computer, also W7 HP64bit, Connected the hard drive.
First time worked, I saw the two partitions of my old hard drive. All following attempts failed to connect the disk.

What am I doing wrong?

If you can locate the HDD in "MyComputer" (WinKey + E) , then "Right-click" - "Properties" - "Tools" and schedule a CHKDSK for the faulty HDD after repairs has been made remove & reinsert.Post back!! :what:

The disk is not faulty. The connection works fine when I connect the disk for the first time to one computer. Every consecutive connection does not work, It doesnt show the partitions.

When I go to another computer, one which doesnt know my adapter/loose hard disk, then it works again ONLY the first time.

So, the disk is fine but I would like to know why the connection works fine only the first time.

The drive should show up in Device Manager, Disk Management, Computer and Windows Explorer.

Does it show up in any of those locations?

It may be a red herring, but I'm just wondering if the problem is related to the fact you still have a Windows partition on the drive.

If you are able to connect to another computer, delete the Windows partition if you no longer need it and see what happens then.

The Windows partition is naturally on the drive but it does work always the first time.

I only have 2 computers and the single time I can connect the drive to one of both computers is used up. If I want to connect it to another computer I have to ask other people. I think it might be a driver issue. On a "virgin" computer that has never seen the drive before it works, drivers are installed automatically and I believe then the second time the USB connection is handled incorrectly.

Did you check in Device Manager to see if the drive is listed?

If so, you should be able to update the drivers from there.

I went into the list of connected USB devices and deleted the driver.
Then I connected the disk again but without success. I noticed the driver for the hard disk being re-installed automatically.
I think something else in addition to this driver has changed which makes a renewed connection impossible. I just dont know what.

You could go to the drive manufacturer's support site and download the latest driver.

Make sure the drive is disconnected and its driver uninstalled, install the driver you downloaded, and then connect the external drive.

All being well it should be recognised by the new driver.

The manufacture doesnt have this specific driver on the website as download. It comes separate on a disk.

I want to know why I can connect the disk normally only the first time I connect it and every consecutive time it doesnt work.
It Must be a Windows 7 problem.

Both exhibit the same problem. Thats why I dont think its the hardware but the W7 software.
