USB inop...and missing from device manager

I have an old occasional-use Win7 32bit comp of which all USB ports have become inoperable. While checking I noticed there is no "Universal Serial Bus Controller" listed in the Device Manager tree nor can any USB references be found elsewhere (such as under Other). No broken device "caution signs" are present.

I did scrounge up a legacy Intel 2.0 USB driver package and attempted an install but after rebooting I still have no indication of any USB controllers. I can still use the comp by way of MS's Mouse Without Borders, which I've done on and off for years. Would be nice to enable the mouse, keyboards and portables for a bit longer. Looking for a possible suggestion or two. ;-)

Thanks!

It's probably the chipset driver. Reinstall that. However, you motherboard GA-MA785GM-US2H has at least two revisions so know which one you have. Somewhere in the corner of the motherboard, I think bottom left should be the silkscreened revision number.

Actually, it looks like the chipset driver is the same for each Rev model. But they list the download twice.

Appreciate the reply!

Oops, I've fiddled with this problem on-and-off for a while and forgot that I did, as a first attempt, try to refresh using the driver package you noted. As my board is a rev.1.0 I used the 62MB version. Funny thing is you mention 2 instances of the driver but they actually have both packages listed 4 times (twice each in two driver drop down trees)!

So to be correct -- I first tried installing the chipset driver package then at a later date attempted to install just the Intel legacy 2.0 USB drivers sourced elsewhere.

I seem to recall reading that there was a Windows update which brought in some sort of obsolescence to certain USB implementations (maybe 2.0?) which converted the "Universal Serial Bus Controller" to something more akin to compatibility mode operation and labeled as such in device driver.

When I fired this comp up the other day I attempted to run a MS update not being sure they remained available. To my surprise it found four available of which two loaded and two failed. Still can't get the two failed to load and not sure if it's on my end or theirs.
