USB keyboard and mouse do not work once Windows starts

For me it happens so seldom I can't track it down. It's probably been 6 or 7 months from the last time. I really don't worry about it. I just reboot and things work well for a few more months.

For me its like 10 times per month completely random, glad to know i'm not alone if you allow me to say it. We don't have neither the same keyboard or mobo so i personally blame Windows 7.

I wish that were the same for me. I've rebooted dozens of times I've completely cut power (after it's off of course) and waited for it to drain the battery on the mother board. Still nothing.

I had this problem happen to me today, I decided to try and install Linux Mint earlier, the Grub fatally crashed so I thought I'd work on it later. Tried to boot up into Windows 7 Professional 64bit and the keyboard and mouse stopped working all together. Tried to hit F8 and boot into Advanced Boot options (keyboard worked to select the top option "Safe Mode.") Welcome screen loaded and again, nothing. This happened a few times today and I found this post, after reading some of the replies, I decided that maybe it was a driver issue and hit enter on "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" in the Advanced Boot options screen.

Welcome screen loaded and I was able to use the mouse and keyboard without any problems.
Not sure of the cause of the problem, but I'm guessing for me that it was the grub issue.

tldr: Hit F8 on startup then enter on Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.

This worked perfect for me. I ran into this issue after installing USBPcap with Wireshark. You're a freakin' lifesaver. Thank you!

I have this same issue. It just happened suddenly. Neither new software installed, nor hardware. No changes in BIOS settings. Computer Lenovo H30-00 had only USB ports for mouse and keyboard. They work fine in BIOS /and in Linux bootable CD/. But when I boot Windows 7 from HDD, the lights on KB and mouse go off and they both stop responding.
I don't know the reason for the USB failure, but I suspect voltage spikes, or this:
"If you quickly and repeatedly insert and remove a USB device, the USB port may stop responding. When the port is in this state, it no longer recognizes any USB device, and the USB device will not work." - Microsoft
For more information: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/817900
In this article You can found solutions only if your USB port(s) stop working, but You still have a working mouse /not my case :( /

I trying recovery mode, safe mode - no luck! A'm just unable to click on "Next" button. The same is happen when I decide to make new install from W7 inst. disk - no mouse, no keyboard!
BIOS settings look fine. USB ports - Enable, Compatibility mode - Enable. I try to change several other options without success.
Finally, after a week of googling and trying every advice, I make the simplest thing that SOLVE my problem.
In BIOS I choose "Load Optimal Defaults" and save settings. After Windows start all USB ports are working properly!

I ran into this issue today with a client's PC and this fixed it. Thank you so much.
